Lifelong Learning
Taiwan promulgated the “Lifelong Learning Act” in 2002 as the basis for implementing and promoting lifelong education and establishing a learning society.
CYCU’s holistic education philosophy emphasizes the best practices of lifelong learning. It would be considered as a success if it enables everyone to exercise his/her personal potential satisfactorily. In consideration of the USR, CYCU adopts diversified lifelong learning practices proactively.
I. Continuing Education
In response to Taiwan’s lifelong learning and continuing education development orientation and to exercise the university’s function in continuing education, CYCU established the Office of Continuing Education in accordance with the University Act. The Office shall promote “lifelong holistic education”, practice lifelong education in a learning society and establish a base of global lifelong education.
(I) Curriculum links communization and industrialization, and multiple courses are made
available.
(II) Establish a strategic alliance and integrate resources from industry, government, and
academia.
(III) Verify the background of industry development and develop cutting-edge trends
courses.

In addition to organizing lifelong learning and continuing education credit courses, with the intent to serve communities and fulfill its URS, CYCU organizes seminars without charge from time to time. Through various free seminars, CYCU hopes to bring the public closer to lifelong education and bring holistic education to each corner of the society.

II. Promote diversified reading activities and improve citizens’ literacy.
Based on the holistic education and common good philosophy, CYCU promotes the lifelong learning policy and practices community service. The CYCU Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library implements diversified reading activities through the following practices:
(I) Open to the public for access to books in the library and for borrowing books.
Community residents may access books or journals, or search online resources, and visit the Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library and various exhibits organized in the Library upon exchange for a library card with their ID cards every day.

(II) Promote online study groups in Chinese and English to prepare for being a bilingual country.
To practice the lifelong learning philosophy, CYCU organizes various study group activities, responds to general education courses, promotes information literacy concepts and their application, trains students’ professional knowledge and skills, and values the holistic education target pursued by the general education courses.
(III) Strengthen the circulation of second-hand books and improve the reading habit on campus and in the community.
Strengthen the circulation of second-hand books to promote the holistic reading habit. CYCU will set up a location dedicated to accepting donated books in important buildings and make the donated books available without charge. CYCU will also organize the “Book Donation” activity in the Library on a weekly basis each year, and re-donate the books to other schools or units, to fulfill its USR and do its part for global sustainable development.

(IV) Organize an online book fair of gender equality to boost an equal and open society.
Modern campus education focuses on promotion of gender equality and popularization of the concept of gender diversity education. The Library organized the “Respect and Equality: Gender Equality Online Book Fair”, which exhibits the Library’s book resources related to gender equality issues to enable teachers and students of CYCU to better understand themselves, respect others, appreciate differences, and build a more tolerable and open society.
Community Art and Culture Activities
To enhance art and culture literacy, CYCU established the Arts Salon and Art Center to organize various concerts and art exhibits so that the campus may have a strong artistic and literary atmosphere so an artistic and literary feast can give students a more an in-depth experience in art history and theory, thus making art appreciation no longer unattainable to the general public. The art exhibitions organized throughout the school each year are open to community residents to cultivate and improve people’s physical and mental balance and art taste, thus improving the life quality and promoting the arts and culture in the community. Meanwhile, since CYCU Chaplain’s Office was founded, it has organized the concert “Melodious Songs” at Re-li Chapel for 15 consecutive years and implemented arts and culture among teachers and students to help pursue sustainable development.
I. Feng Ya Song Music Center
This performance may be presented in the form of recitals, chamber music, and opera selections, etc.

II. Arts Center
The Arts Center primarily executes campus visual art exhibition curation and art education promotional activities. Curation is carried out in the form of invitational exhibitions, cooperative exhibitions, and application exhibitions.

III. Chaplain’s Office
As is clear from its name, CYCU was founded according to Christian and Biblical principles. The Chaplain`s Office was established in 1972 to assist teachers in their roles and tasks in teaching and research. In recent years it has even extended its service to the community and society to grow with the society through sharing or direction and signifying CYCU’s holistic education philosophy on campus and society.
(I) Melodious Songs
The “Melodious Songs” concert has been organized in the Re-Li Chapel for 15 consecutive years, as has cultivated art literacy teachers, students, and community residents to help pursue sustainable development.
(II) HIGHHIGH Life Seminar
CYCU’s “HIGHHIGH Life Seminar” invites many witnesses of life as navigators for one’s life and guide faculty to believe God controls their life and makes their life more prosperous.
(III) Faculty Choir
CYCU’s Faculty Choir was established in 1965 and is primarily responsible for communicating the gospel of Christ, cultivating spiritual life, marketing CYCU’s holistic education philosophy, fulfilling social responsibilities, and reuniting alumni. The Choir is often invited to sing hymns on various occasions on campus.
Community Residents’ Health
CYCU owns a sound multi-functional sports park which is made available to teachers and students for the purpose of teaching and sports. Meanwhile, to provide community residents with services, CYCU set up the Division of Sports Services under direction of the Office of Physical Education and adopted regulations governing collection of charges for the sports park to manage and maintain various consumable materials and facilities for sports teaching and training and renovate the sports park and outdoor equipment. Meanwhile, based on the sports park, CYCU works with the city government to organize regional sport games to build a regional characteristic university sports park in Zhongli, and develop the park rental services and organization of activities to activate activities in greater Taoyuan.
